If you can shed any light on where adoption files may be kept, can we please ask members to share this information with other members via message board

1. Edinburgh. Birthlink not only helps with adoption searches and traces for people born in Scotland they also hold the Adoption Contact Register for Scotland. They can be contact by writing to: Birthlink, 21 Castle Street, Edinburgh EH2 3DN. Telephone No. 0131 225 6441.

2. Cumbria Coledale Hall, 94 Newtown Road, Carlisle (AKA St Mary's Home). Now closed.
Originally run by Church of England Diocese. NEPAS has had a lot of dealing with adopted people and birth relatives where the adoption took place through this agency. It appears that there was a strong network between staff at Coledale Hall and Morale Welfare Workers/Adoption Workers covering the North East of England. Again contact us through the Message Board.

3. Corbridge, Dilston Hall, Northumberland.
Originally run by Northern Counties Adoption Society. In general records held by Durham Family Welfare. NEPAS has dealt with many members who were adopted through this mother and babies home. Durham Family Welfare has very experience post adoption workers who have background knowledge. Telephone Number 0191 3863719 or write to Agriculture House, Stonebridge, Durham, County Durham, DH1 3RY.

4. Morpeth, Northumberland. Bowmer Bank, Morpeth.
This home was run by Northumberland County Council. To check if any records exist you need to contact The Manager, (Permanency), Tweed House, Hepscott Park, Stannington, Near Morpeth, Northumberland, NE61 6NP
Dean View Children's Home, Morpeth. We have also dealt with people adopted from this home. Again our advice is to contact Northumberland County Council on the address above.

5. Middlesborough. Holy Cross Home, 74 St Paul's Road/92 Lothian Road. Middlesborough.
This home was run by various agencies before its closure. Over the years we haven't found a single organisation that holds these records but people have traced their records to larger agencies that used this home. For example York Adoption Society and Northern Counties Adoption Society.

6. Barrow in Furness Hope House, Friars Lane, Barrow in Furness.
What we know is that this home was run by the Church of England and associated with Carlisle. To date we have not turned up any files for adoption undertaken in this home. Again can anyone shed any light on this home?

7. Nottingham. Fern Mount, 16 Gorsey Road, Nottingham.
This home was open between 1960 - 170 approx. It was run by Southwell Diocesan Council for Family Welfare. Although we have tried to establish where these records are held at the moment. That is if they exist. Again if any member can show any light on there whereabouts this would be appreciated and again shared with other from the Adoption Community.
Our advice at present is to contact Support After Adoption on 0115 9150572.
Please note: Support After Adoption only deals with an adoption that originally happened in the Nottingham area.

8. York. We have dealt with various people living in the North East of England but originated in Yorkshire. Due to the closure of many of these homes and the restructuring of Local Authorities there is a good chance that your adoption files have been re-sited or in some circumstances lost or destroyed. We would suggest that you contact NEPAS through the Message Board and take it forward from there.

9. Coventry. St Faith's, St Nicholas Street (1920 - 1930 approx.)
This home was run by the Church of England Diocese. Adoption records are held by Coventry City Archives (02476832418) and those after 1927 by Coventry Social Services Department. Again we have a number for Coventry SSD. They are separate from Warwickshire SSD.

10. Southampton. Nazareth House, 33 Hill Lane.
Closed. The St Francis Children's Society ran home. Records we believed are held by Nazareth House Archives. Again discuss on message board.

11. London.
Please contact NEPAS through message board. Too much data to add as a pop up.

12. Manchester.
